Well, what a rush that was.
The Winter Blast is a very simple concept, an opportunity to get out and amongst beautiful 2-wheeled machines and likeminded folks, even when it is freezing outside.
It has to be said, neither of these things disappointed, as while the temperature dropped well below freezing outside, things heated up (both metaphorically and physically this year as we had some heating) inside as people arrived in their droves to take shelter and bask in the warm glow of the good vibes everyone was bringing.
There were some incredible machines to feast your eyes on with some of the crowd favourites being the 4 bikes our friends Mint Customs showed, the 2 incredible Harleys (1 bagger, 1 bobber) from Dean Clack, Lucifer Cameron's Knucklehead, the outstanding WLC from Bob C Customs, Papa Slapp's Royal Enfield and who could miss The Dirty Wizard Customs Foxbody race car. It was an eclectic mix of bikes with each one being selected for their uniqueness and story, and we loved them all.
Entertainment was provided by Bedford legends Roll Your Own Records, a debut performance from The Knuckleheads and Luton favourites Dois Padres who brought the house down with a piping hot serving of rock and roll.
We were blessed with some of the finest independent small Moto-related businesses in the country meaning there was plenty of inspiration for those last minute gifts and well earned treats and Jorge (Signs by Jorge) even treated us to an exhibition of her exceptional sign-writing on the aforementioned Foxbody.
Countless coffees had been downed (thanks to Awesome Coffee Daventry), everyone was kept nourished by the excellent Addy's Chops and by the looks of everyones rosey red cheeks the bar at Rushden Transport Museum had done a brisk trade.
As I reflect on the show 24 hours on, it occurs to me what a special event is has been and is. I can say with certainty that we will be back there again next Christmas, and who knows... perhaps this is the year that Boyds puts on a summer show.
